Kirsten Wethern English 1-1A Writing Prompt Just For A Day Present Day You’re confused;” why does everyone look so scared and concerned to see me?” you think to yourself. But little do you know; they can’t see you. Last Night Your parents are across the hall putting Carson and Delilah to bed; as you wait for them to come tuck you in, your start to imagine what it would be like to be invisible. Just for a day. You hear your parents crossing the hallway, so you lay down, close your eyes, and whisper to yourself, “I wish I could be a ghost. Just for a day”. Your parents walk into your room; your mother pulls your soft heavy weighted blanket up to your shoulders, your father kissed you on the forehead, turns off the light, and they both walk out of your room. Once your parents are gone you continue to imagine what being a ghost would be like. “I would be lonely, unless I had some other ghost friends. Being lonely isn’t fun, but on the other hand, I need a break from people sometimes. I would be able to scare and get revenge on people without them knowing that is was me. I wouldn’t get in trouble either. It would be great to be a ghost. Just for a day. I wish I could be a ghost.” you think to yourself. Then you slowly drift off to sleep lying on your comfortable bed with your soft, pink, weighted blanket pulled up to your shoulders and your head resting on your memory foam pillow. The Next Day You wake up the next morning feeling very well rested. Lucky for you there is no school today. You put on your most comfortable and soft pair of sweatpants and your favorite hoodie. You don’t even think to look in the mirror because you don’t care what your outfit or your hair looks like. You're not going anywhere today, because it’s Saturday. Present Day You’re walking downstairs to say good morning to Carson, Delilah, and your parents. They all look scared and concerned when they see you, but little do you know they can’t see you. All they see is a floating pair of sweatpants and a levitating hoodie. “AHHH!” Delilah and Carson yell in unison. Both Delilah and Carson got up from the table and ran to mom and dad. “What’s wrong?” you ask. Nobody answers. Both your mom and your dad still have concerned looks on their face. Delilah now has her face buried into dads' leg, and Carson into moms' leg. Your mom leans in closer to your dad and you hear her whisper... “What is that?” “It sounds like Everleigh to me. But why is she invisible?” your dad whispers back. Then you say “hahaha, very funny guys. Jokes over. I’m not invisible. I am not that gullible. A human can never be invisible.” “It’s talking!” Carson yelled. “I’m scared Mommy!” Delilah yelled with her face still buried into dads’ leg. “Guys, you can stop with the acting. It’s me. It’s really me. Just plain, old, boring, human, Everleigh. I’m not invisible.” But then you remember what you said last night. You look down at your hands and you cannot see yourself. You’re a foggy but still clear figure. Now it all makes sense. You know why Carson and Delilah are screaming, you know why your parents are confused, and you know why your mother was asking your dad what you were. It all makes sense now. Half an Hour Later You finally come out of your room, and youslowly walkdown the stairs. You spent the last thirty minutesupstairsprocessing what is happening. You think about what you’re going to do while no one can see you. “Am I going to be invisible for the rest of my life or just for today? Hopefully just today. That’s what I wished for. And what am I going to do. I could get revenge on people, but then I would feel bad, but screw it. I’m gonna get revenge on people. I need to make a list of who I need to get revenge on and how” you think to yourself. “Emma, Jason, Jayden, Bonnie, Gavin, Hannah, Ashlie, and I can’t forget about Leah.I’m not very good at being mean. I don’t know how to get revenge on people. I can google. Yea, that’s what I’ll do, I’ll google it”. You spend the next 15 minutes in the living room sitting at the computer desk googling how to get revenge on people. You know it’s dumb, but you don’t care. You would do anything to get revenge on these people. As you continue searching through google you decide that none of the methods would be equivalent for what they did to you. “None of these would work. They're not exactly what I had in mind. And I would feel bad if i did these things to them, so they’re off the hook this time I guess.” you think to yourself. “What am I gonna do today? I could go walk around town and give people a little scare. That would be funny, and I wouldn’t feel bad because I don't know them. Oh, I also need to call my best friends, Eli and Savannah, and tell them what is happening. They probablywon't believe me, but I need to tell them or I'll feel bad for not telling them such a big secret.” you think to yourself. (On the phone with Eli) “Hey, Eli!” “Hi Ev, what’s up?” “I have something important to tell you. You might not believe me, but I’m going to tell you anyways!” You say excitedly. “Continue” “I’m invisible. I’m like a ghost!” “Wow” Eli said sarcastically. “I'm serious Eli!” “I’m sure you are Ev and that sounds exciting” Eli responded sarcastically again. “I really am serious, and I knew you wouldn’t believe me. This is why I was tempted to not tell you. I’m going to go.” “Ok, it was nice talking to ya. Bye Everleigh.” “Bye” you respond. You hang up and decide to call Savannah now to see what she says. Three Minute Later You just got off the phone with Savannah. She didn’t believe you either. But it’s fine cause now you won’t feel bad for not telling them that you are a ghost. Later That Afternoon You have spent the majority of the day just hanging out at your house in your bedroom so you decide to get up and do something. You end up deciding to go walk around town and watch people reactions when they “see” you. Two Hours Later You decide to come home cause it started to get cold and your mom is probably done making dinner, even though you can’t eat it. That Night You lay down in your comfortable bed and rest you head on your memory foam pillow. “I wish that i could be human again” you whisper to yourself before your walk into your room. Mom pulls your soft, heavy, weighted blanket up to your shoulder, then Dad leans down and kisses you on the forehead. “Goodnight Ev” he says as he turns of your bedroom light. “See ya in the morning Everleigh. And hopefully in human form this time. Goodnight” You mom says as she closes the door. “Goodnight” you answer in a tired voice. Student’s Choice Reflection
