Kirsten Wethern Ms. Lehmann English 1-1A 18 December 2019 Nadine Gordimer's "Once Upon A Time" Summary In Nadine Gordimer's short story "Once Upon a Time" she tells a story about being overprotective being a bad thing. After a scare in her home, a reluctant narrator tells herself a "bedtime story." There is a mother, a father, and a young son. In the beginning the family insures their home, puts up a trespassers' warning sign, and puts a fence around the pool to keep their son safe. Next, riots begin to take place in the neighborhood. Therefore, the family installs an electronically controlled gate. After that, burglaries begin to take place because people are starving. Sue to that the family puts bars over their windows and installs and alarm system. Soon, people from outside the suburb begin to stay on the streets of the suburb. The family begins to look at additional security for their fenced yard. Next, the family installs razor wire to the top of their fence. One day, their young son is pretending to be a prince crawling through a thicket of thorns. As a result, he crawls into the razor wire and is killed.

They I typed the events that happened in the story in order. Next, I handed it in to Ms. Lehmann and she told me what needed to be changed or corrested. Lastly I made the corrections and typed the summary.
2. What qualifies this paper as a summary? What are the requirements for this genre and how did you meet them? A summary should tell somebody what a story, essay, article, etc. is about.
3. What piece of advice would you give someone writing a summary for the first time? Why? The advice that I would give somebody writin a summary for the first time is keep is short, but still keep all the detail. I would give this advice because it can be easy to get carried away when writing a summary and your summary could get to long.
